Montecarlo, together with the neighboring municipalities of Altopascio, Capannori and Porcari delimit the production area of one of the oldest wines in Tuscany. The Fattoria Carmignani preserves this treasure over time
The winemaking tradition in Montecarlo has continued over time and already at the end of the 800s the production had further improved, thanks to the commitment of a passionate winemaker from Lucca Giulio Magnani, who brought some vines from France (Pinot Blanc, Roussane, Sauvignon and Semillon) to improve Trebbiano Toscano; from these innovations the new Montecarlo was born, vinified in the “French” style; other producers followed his path by imitating blending and winemaking.
In 1969 the Bianco di Montecarlo obtained the official recognition of the Denomination of Controlled Origin and in 1985 the red wine also had the recognition of the DOC.
The most recent years have been characterized by an intense activity of renewal and adaptation of the vineyards and oenological structures, with the result of bringing the small production of local wines towards the highest production standards required by the market today.
