The first national measure to regulate wine production, with which the concept of &#8220;<strong>Denomination of Origin<\/strong>&#8221; was established. This regulatory act defined with precise rules the production and marketing of wines through the &#8220;Production Regulations&#8221;, the establishment of special registers and the system of reporting the quantities of grapes produced to be destined for the production of a given denomination. This Presidential Decree will also establish a classification of this type:   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Simple Designation of Origin wine<\/li>\n<li>Wine with Controlled Designation of Origin<\/li>\n<li>Wine with Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1553\" aria-expanded=\"false\">1992<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1553\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1553\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p><strong>In 1992 <\/strong>Law no. 164\/92 was introduced, which introduced a series of innovations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IGT Introduction<\/li>\n<li>The harvest choice, which allows the production of the same vineyard to be used for several Denominations of Origin<\/li>\n<li>The recognition of sub-areas, i.e. smaller areas within the Denomination of Origin<\/li>\n<li>Compulsory chemical-physical analysis before marketing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n            <strong>With Law 164\/92 we arrive at what is the &#8220;Wine Pyramid&#8221; that we know today and that we use in Italy:<\/strong>\n          <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DOCG wines<\/li>\n<li>DOC Wines<\/li>\n<li>IGT Wines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1134 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/winesommelier.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/piramide-doc-docg-igt.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1017px) 100vw, 1017px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winesommelier.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/piramide-doc-docg-igt.jpg 1017w, https:\/\/winesommelier.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/piramide-doc-docg-igt-300x229.jpg 300w, https:\/\/winesommelier.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/piramide-doc-docg-igt-768x587.jpg 768w, https:\/\/winesommelier.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/piramide-doc-docg-igt-810x619.jpg 810w\" alt=\"\" width=\"1017\" height=\"777\">\n          <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1554\" aria-expanded=\"false\">2008<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1554\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1554\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>In 2008, the European Community decided to implement a reform process within the wine sector. The work thus saw the birth of European Regulation 479\/2008, which introduced some innovations regarding production, labeling, marketing and denomination at an international level. The aspect that perhaps interests us most, however, is the simplification of the &#8220;wine pyramid&#8221; that we have just seen, especially to protect as much as possible the final consumer, who is a wine lover, but not always an expert in the sector.  <br \/><strong>The Regulation therefore provides for only three categories:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PDO wines<\/li>\n<li>IGP Wines<\/li>\n<li>Generic wines (with or without vintage and grape variety)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The main simplification can be found, as it is easy to guess, in wines with an indication of origin: PDO and PGI. PDO wines must comply with a specific specification, which certifies the standards of that specific bottle, but nothing prevents an IGT wine from being better than a DOCG, also because personal taste has a great influence. A D.O.C.G. or D.O.C. wine, however, is also synonymous with quality, as well as strict controls that are carried out before being put on the market, which guarantee very high levels of production. (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) wines<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tabs-content-wrapper\" role=\"tablist\" aria-orientation=\"vertical\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"true\" data-tab=\"1\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-8001\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Table Wines<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-8001\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"1\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-8001\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"false\"><p>They are those wines without any geographical reference. There are no rules for the variety of grapes used, which can also come from different geographical areas. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-8002\" aria-expanded=\"false\">I.G.T. (Typical Geographical Indication) wines<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-8002\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-8002\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>These wines are characterized by the geographical indication of origin, the base grape variety and the vintage of harvest. T<strong>he peculiarity is that at least 85% of the grapes must be harvested from the geographical area of which they bear the name.<\/strong> In addition to these elements, some parameters indicated within the specifications must be respected: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maximum grape yield per hectare<\/li>\n<li>Yield of transformation of grapes into wine<\/li>\n<li>Minimum natural alcohol content<\/li>\n<li>Permitted grape varieties of origin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-8003\" aria-expanded=\"false\">D.O.C. (Controlled Designation of Origin) wines<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-8003\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-8003\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p>They are <strong>produced in a very specific geographical area and must meet very specific chemical and organoleptic characteristics, <\/strong>set out in the specifications.
